LOWELL, MA – Wayside Youth & Family Support Network received a COVID-19 Relief Grant from the Saab Family Foundation to provide personal protective equipment to staff returning to working with families in their homes, gift cards for basic needs like food, cleaning supplies and personal care products and to purchase Chrome Books for 10 of our families in the Greater Lowell area who lack access to technology.
Wayside’s Lowell site provides services to more than 200 children, young adults and families a day. Our youth and families are experiencing significant stress due to mental illness, substance use disorders, family issues and other challenges that disrupt functioning. COVID-19 has created hardship for our families who have lost jobs, access to childcare and are trying to assist their children with at-home learning with minimal support.
“We are tremendously grateful to the Saab Family Foundation for providing this relief grant,” said Elisa Jacome, Lowell site director. “Many of our families have been disproportionately affected by COVID-19 and have suffered financial, physical and emotional issues. These funds will alleviate some of the stress our families are experiencing and enable our staff to safely provide counseling and support in their clients homes.”
